assignment #5:
bring two turf weeds to class
Due 21 October 1997
ORH 3222C - Turfgrass Culture
University of Florida - Fort Lauderdale
(return to Handouts)
The purpose of this assignment is to encourage closer study of turf weeds, their growth habit, method of propagation, and identification characteristics. To accomplish this we will grow weeds in 1-gallon containers, irrigated and properly cared. Please don't everybody bring in goosegrass, matchweed, and dollarweed.
Make sure that the two (or more) turf weeds you bring to class will survive. It is suggested that you dig an intact root ball and place the intact roots and soil in a supportive container. You don't have to pot up your weeds, but just make sure it is not going to roll around in your vehicle. A little supplemental water might help, particularly if the weeds were collected from a dry site. The biggest dangers, however, is excess desiccation from leaving the weeds in a sunny or windy environment, or from collecting them too soon. It may be amazing, but when you want to grow weeds, it can actually be a challenge!
