Student Activist Organization Fair
For the third year, the Student Activist Organization (SAO) Fair
will be held concurrently with the conference. The SAO Fair, with the
theme "Thinking and Acting Globally and Locally," brings together organizations that work for human rights and social justice in regions all around the world, including the local Gainesville community. Student and faculty
representatives will be on hand to showcase their repective activist
organizations, and information booths will give prospective members the
opportunity to become involved.
By holding the fair and conference concurrently, like-minded social
scientists are able to see the social sciences in action, as well as
theory. The fair's stated objectives are:
- To allow students and faculty the opportunity to showcase various activist organizations with which they work
- To allow students and faculty to learn about their peers'
activism
- To allow organization members the opportunity to network
- To allow organization members the opportunity to fundraise
- To encourage activism within sociology (and other social
sciences)
In previous years, the following groups have participated in the SAO fair:
- Alliance for International Reforestation (AIR)
- Amnesty International at UF
- Change the World: Student Social Entrepreneurs at UF / Net Impact Chapter
- Feminist Activists Creating Equality (FACE)
- Gators for Asha
- Students for a Human Society
