Constitution:
These are the founding principles we follow:
PREAMBLE
In order to advance the development of knowledge and skills in the
engineering profession, and by recognizing the necessity for establishing
a student organization in the discipline of environmental engineering
sciences. We, the members of the SOCIETY OF ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERS,
do hereby adopt the following constitution.
ARTICLE I - NAME
SECTION 1: The name of this organization shall be the “Society
of Environmental Engineers” and shall be hereafter be referred
to in this constitution as SEE.
ARTICLE II - OBJECTIVES
SECTION 1: The objectives of SEE shall be:
1. To sponsor discussions and activities in Environmental Engineering
and Environmental Engineering Sciences in order to enhance the professional
awareness of our members.
2. To offer services to the needs of the Department of Environmental
Engineering Sciences, its faculty and students, and the College
of Engineering.
3. To promote mutually beneficial student/teacher interaction and
to recognize an outstanding faculty member each year (McCreary Award).
4. To provide social activities for its members.
5. To sponsor and promote intramural and intradepartmental athletics.
6. To participate and promote participation in activities of the
Benton Engineering Council and the College of Engineering (e.g.
Engineering Fair).
ARTICLE III - MEMBERSHIP
SECTION 1: Eligibility
Any UF student with an interest in the field of environmental
engineering sciences. Members are free to leave or disassociate
without fear of retribution or harassment.
SECTION 2: Definition of Memberships
1. Active: Any member who has paid dues for the current semester;
this status entitles the member to voting rights and test file privileges.
2. Inactive: Any member who is delinquent with current dues; all
active member rights and privileges are suspended.
3. Associate: Any member who is not eligible to vote or hold office
as determined in the society’s Bylaws.
SECTION 3: Non-discrimination
SEE will not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color,
sex, age, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation.
SECTION 4: Rules and Regulations
SEE will abide by all of the university’s rules and regulations.
SEE will not participate in any hazing activities.
ARTICLE IV - MEETINGS
SECTION 1: General Meetings
Any regularly scheduled meeting of the society’s general
membership.
1. Frequency: Meetings will be held every two weeks during the
regular semester sessions whenever possible; the first to be determined
by the President.
a) General Meetings can be cancelled or rescheduled by the President
or by a majority of the Executive Committee.
b) General Meetings should not interfere with professional exams
such as the EIT.
2. Attendance:
a) Open to all students, faculty, and alumni.
b) The right to dismiss anyone displaying disorderly or disruptive
conduct shall be recognized.
c) Attendance will not be required for membership, although it is
highly recommended.
ARTICLE V - FINANCES
SECTION 1: Dues
1. Students will be charged per semester as determined each term
by the Executive Committee, after approval by the active members
in the following General Meeting.
2. Dues shall not exceed $15.00 per year.
ARTICLE VI - OFFICERS
SECTION 1: Major Offices
There shall be six major offices, each with terms of one year;
each to be elected by a simple majority of the active members in
a ballot vote at the end of every spring semester (usually April).
For all offices except president, if during the time of an officers
term the officer becomes ineligible, due to financial, academic
or conduct problems with the university, the remaining officers
may choose to either elect another officer, or to split the duties
of the ineligible officer and continue with the remaining officers.
If the president becomes ineligible, the vice president-programs
will assume the office of president, and the remaining officers
will decide whether to elect a new vice-president-programs. A faculty
advisor will be elected by the executive committee at the start
of the fall semester (usually September) for a term of one year.
A faculty advisor can have an unlimited number of terms.
All major officers will keep a notebook of all their records, correspondence,
and activities during their term; this notebook will then be handed
down to their corresponding successor. The major officers shall
preside in the folloiwng order:
1. President:
a) Shall oversee all functions and activities of the society.
b) Shall preside over all General Meetings of the society.
c) Shall have a voice and vote in all committee decisions.
d) Shall be authorized to distribute funds by signature.
e) Will become the default of the Outstanding Faculty Award
committee during the spring term if a chairperson is not appointed.
2. 1st Vice President-Programs:
a) Shall perform all the duties of the President in the absence
of that officer.
b) Shall be responsible for the proper functioning of all committees;
however, shall not have a vote in a committee unless he/she is a
member.
c) shall be responsible for arrainging speakers for the General
Meetings.
d) Will become the default chairperson of the education and scholarship
committees if needed and a chairperson is not appointed.
e) Will become the default chairperson for the engineer's fair committee
during the spring term if a chairperson is not appointed.
3. 2nd Vice President-Activities:
a) Shall be responsible for the proper functioning of all intramural
activities as well as promoting participation by all members.
b) shall be responsible for planning social activities for the
society.
c) shall be responsible for arranging football searing blocks
in the fall; both collecting and distributing the tickets.
d) Will oversee the picnic social in the fall and spring (Fall
Flogging and Spring Splash) and become default chairperson if a
chairperson is not appointed.
4. Secretary:
a) Shall transcribe and maintain accurate accounts of the proceedings
of all General Meetings.
b) Shall notify all members of all general Meetings and society
activities by e-mail and fliers.
c) Shall be in charge of reserving rooms and food for the semi-formal
events at the end of the fall and spring semesters, and will become
default chairperson if a chairperson is not appointed.
5. Treasurer:
a) Shall be in charge of the copying any notes and tests that are
to be distributed throughout the semester.
b) Shall be in charge of arranging the collection of dues, and the
financing of activities by various fundraisers.
c) Shall work closely with the department to arrange payment for
departmental social events.
6. Historian:
a) Shall be in charge of taking pictures of all events, and shall
keep a reocrd of all events in nicely decorated photo album.
b) Shall be in charge of ordering and arranging for the design of
t-shirts for various events.
c) Will be in charge of maintaining the faculty display case in
Black Hall.
d) Shall make sure that the SEE Website is kept up to date.
7. Faculty Advisor:
a) Shall advise the society's officers.
b) Attend all general meetings of the society if possible.
Section 2: Ammending the Constitution
The Executive Committee has the authority to amend the SEE constitution
in order to comply with the Student Activity center's requirements.
all other ammendments shall be voted on by a simple majority of
the active members.
