Micropterus cataractae
The shoal bass is an undescribed black bass Micropterus spp. endemic to southwest Georgia and southeast Alabama. Its distribution in Florida is largely limited to a 20-km stretch of the Chiplola River (see below), and the fish is listed as threatened in the State. The purpose of this project is to identify important microhabitats of juvenile and adult shoal bass in this reach of the river. A logistic regression model will be developed to predict the occurrence of juvenile and adult shoal bass based on microhabitat characteristics (e.g., depth, substrate, flow characteristics). The model will hopefully allow resource managers to identify critical habitats for preservation of the shoal bass in Florida.
