Publishing your Website to WebCT...

Note:

  • The first page of your web site must have the document name index.html
  • There must be no spaces in any of your file names before you upload

To publish your site to WebCT, log into WebCT and go to your class's homepage.

Once there, go to the Student Dietary Supplement Web Pages tool (in the Student Center).

Make sure you read the instructions carefully before moving on.

To upload your files you need to enter the File Manager, which you can do by clicking on the Edit Files link next to your Group name.

You are now in the File Manager. Here you can perform many tasks with the files you have uploaded. You will notice that WebCT has already created a folder for your group project. Right now, we simply want to know how to upload your files.
To upload a file highlight the Upload button on the File Options menu at the top of the browser window; then click Go.
A new frame will appear with a menu that looks like this. By the Filename box, click on Browse and find the file you want to upload (on your hard disk). Make sure your presentation folder is indicated in the Destination folder box. When you are finished click Upload.
You will return to the File Manager and should see that your uploaded document is now in the presentation folder.

Note: As long as the document file for the first page of your site is named index.html, WebCT will recognize and post it automatically; you should now see your website available for viewing in the Student Presentations list. You can give the index.html document any page title (in the html <title> tags) and that will display as your project name. Also, all graphics links should be "relative" links, listing just the name of the graphic and not an "address" (such as C:/folder/folder/graphic.gif -- which a browser will not be able to find). If the graphic link simply lists the graphic file name (e.g. graphic.gif, graphic.jpg, etc.) and the graphic is in the same folder as the html page itself, browsers will be able to find and display the image.
Some additional information:

If you want to upload more than one file at a time you will need to Zip your files. To do so you will need either WinZip (for PC users) or MacZipIt (for Mac users). After you have zipped your files return to the file manager and Upload the zip file you just created the same way as above. After uploading, click the checkbox beside the file in the File Manager, select the Unzip option from the center menu at the top of the page, and click Go. Identify which directory you want to unzipped files to go to the drop-down menu or leave it alone to unzip the file to the same directory. Click Unzip to unzip.
