Course Handbook for HUN 5246
These pages provide
an overview of the course, "Current Issues in Dietary Supplements." Dietary
supplement use has been growing since the passage of the Dietary Supplement
Health and Education Act (DSHEA) in 1994, making ginkgo biloba, echinacea,
and St. John's wort household words. Do these supplements work? Are they
safe? In this course we will explore the science behind dietary supplement
claims and examine the regulations that impact the dietary supplement industry.
The course is
offered entirely "online" via the Internet. Through the course activities
and readings, students will develop skills in critiquing research articles,
and will develop a consumer-friendly web page on a dietary supplement of
their choice. Use the menu options at the top of this page for details.
