This Friday, November 17th, we're painting the wall white and red to announce our two huge events for our series on conflict diamonds, otherwise known as blood diamonds, to raise awareness and let people know what they can do to perpetuate clean diamond trade. They're coming up right after Thanksgiving break! Come join us at the wall at 7pm -- A LITTLE EARLIER THAN NORMAL. And bring your friends. These two events are:
MOVIE VIEWING: CRY FREETOWN Tuesday, Nov. 28th at 7:30pm in the Reitz Auditorium
SPEAKER: GREG CAMPBELL Thursday, Nov. 30th at 8:00pm in Rinker 110
Greg Campbell is author of the bestselling novel "Blood Diamonds," which he wrote about his travels to Sierra Leone and how he linked the RUF to Al-Qaeda and the deaths of millions in Africa to diamonds sold across the world.

This Friday, October 20, we're re-painting our "Stop Genocide" banner out on the 34th Street Wall. Our last one stayed up for almost a month, and members of World Peace programs surrounded our mural with messages of peace and equality for all!
Come out to the wall at about 8 pm. You'll see some of us out there setting up. We have paint and paintbrushes, but any extra brushes you might have would be helpful. See you then!
We will be having our next general meeting on Tuesday, October 17th, in 216 Anderson Hall, at 7:30p.m. We have a few events in the works for the end of October and November, all on various rights issues, so come see how you can help out!
Also, thanks to everyone who had a rule in making our participation in the nationwide Darfur Fast such a success. We made a remarkable improvement over last year! We raised in excess of $800 for the World Food Program from donations and t-shirt sales! We also reached the required mark for the Ben & Jerry's fundraiser and 20% of their profits from the hour we were there will go to World Food Program.
Our mock refugee camp event was also a great success, and thanks to Peter Kok for giving such a moving account of his personal experiences in Sudan. Also, thanks to Joakim Noah for coming out and participating with us.
Come join one of our biggest events for the year! On Wednesday, October 4th, Katherine Gockel from the Stanley Foundation will be speaking on the Future of U.S.-Islamic Relations. Sent by Americans for Informed Democracy, we are co-hosting the speaker with the International Business Society. She will speak at 8 p.m. in Anderson 034. Food and drinks will be provided.
The next day: DARFUR FAST!
Thursday, we have back-to-back events set up for the nationally recognized Darfur Fast.
10pm-5pm: We will be collecting donations for the World Food Program.
7pm-8pm: Ben and Jerry's ice cream social. Come have a sweet treat! 20% of Ben & Jerry's profits go toward the World Food Program fund as well.
8:30-2am: Refugee Camp set up in the North Lawn by the Reitz Union. We have a speaker lined up, so come camp out with us around the tents until the wee hours of the morning.
Invite all of your friends! All are welcome. Take part in an activist declaration happening all across the United States!
Our next general body meeting will be this coming Wednesday, September 20, at 7:30 P.M. in Anderson 216 (the conference room). Several new awesome ideas have come up, and we need help to plan and organize them. Hope to see you all there!
In addition, our painting the wall was a success. Drive by sometime and check it out. Let people know who we are and what we do. Here are two pictures from Friday night:

As our kickoff event for the year, we're going to once again paint the 34th Street Wall! Two huge panels. We want to make it the most noticeable segment when people are driving by, and we want YOU to be a part of it!
Paint and paintbrushes are supplied. If you have any brushes you can contribute, however, please bring them so more people can paint at one time.
WHEN: 8:30 p.m
Meet at the 34th Street Wall. If you want to participate and don't have a ride, e-mail hrac.uf (at) gmail.com and we will try to find a way to get you there.
Any contributions to help pay for the supplies is appreciated.
See you then!
We will be having the first meeting of the Fall 2006 Semester this coming Wednesday, September 6th, at 7:30 PM in Anderson Hall, room 101.
Be sure to attend! We have a lot of great events planned and we need all of your help to make them great!
